Final Pro League Clashes Played on Poligras Tokyo GT
This weekend, 26th and 27th June, marked the close of an extraordinary FIH Pro League season as Australia hosted New Zealand at the Perth Hockey Stadium. With just weeks to go until the teams meet at Tokyo 2020, the thrilling double headers did not disappoint. The Australian men’s team kept the goals coming with a massive 7-3 win over New Zealand followed by a solid 2-0 victory. Meanwhile in the women’s, the Black Sticks won the first game in a shootout with the Hockeyroos coming back to win 3-1 in the second. A crucial weekend of Olympic preparation for both nations, it was fitting that the clashes were played on state-of-the-art, sustainable Poligras Tokyo GT Olympic turf.
Trusted and Chosen for the Biggest Hockey Events
With Poligras installed in their home venues in Sydney, Perth and Christchurch both teams know and trust the surface on which their biggest challenges of 2021 will be battled out. The Australia Men, who were 2019 Champions, provided an exhibition of physical, fast, attacking hockey with the tempo for both games reaching incredible heights.

Poligras sets the stage for Olympic showpiece
With Belgium Men and the Netherlands Women already crowned this year’s FIH Pro League Champions, these matches were all about Olympic preparation. In a season which has been disrupted by the pandemic, it is exceptional that two-thirds of planned fixtures were still able to go ahead, but it also makes chances for international play, particularly this close to the Olympics, all the more precious. The opportunity to play on the Olympic surface, after a drought in live sporting action has, no doubt, been priceless for the teams and coaches.
